Guardians at work
The Tribble is there "just because." The Power Ranger has fended off virii and Trojan Horses for many years and was given to me long ago by a former student worker at my office.

I guess it's better than nothing
This sign hangs out from the guest services desk in the Seminole Towne Center mall in front of Belk. The corner of the frame is hard aluminum with a 90° corner that is pretty sharp. The worst part about it is that this desk is adjacent to a kids' play area, and the bottom of the sign is right about the height of a child. Indeed, I saw a 5-year-old nearly smack her head into the corner of this sign, but fortunately was an inch or two short.
I called the mall management to point this out and could only leave a voice mail for the mall operations supervisor. Surprisingly, she called me back after having looked at the sign. She said the situation appalled her and she'd have it dealt with immediately.
Tonight, I was in the mall again and specifically looked for what had been done, and this is what I found. It's a piece of slightly rounded plastic screwed onto both sides of the corner. I'd thought maybe some sort of foam stripping would be good, but I guess this is better than nothing at all.

Those who understand geometry will appreciate, as I did, that removing the light covers in the ceiling gave an extra several inches of clearance. The cabinet would not have fit, otherwise.

Sold my old dresser
In the process of moving, sold good quality 70s style dresser with matching mirrors in good condition. There are two mirrors that attached to the back of the dresser via the two wooden sticks visible below the mirrors. The base of the mirrors meet flush with the top of the dresser. They've been unattached for years and stored because I didn't want to use them.
Not looking forward to the afternoon when the sun reaches my side of the building
I walk in my office and it's 78 degrees. it reached 81 at 4pm yesterday. Hopefully it'll stay a little cooler today now that I have a fan pulling air from the adjacent room that is on a different AC handler.

Opinions please: this is the dish from a $10 mold test kit sold at Home Depot. It's still about 10 hours away from the suggested 48-hour incubation period, but this is what it looks like. The box also said that you can let it incubate for up to 72 hours to be certain. I would've imagined if mold in the apartment was a real problem, we'd see a lot of coverage in the gel. The amount in this photo seems insignificant. Or is it? I wanted to be able to take it to the apartment office as a case toward forcing them to deal with the problem, but I can imagine they'd look at this and say, "Pfft, that's nothing." What should I do?
The kids are enjoying a special treat late evening swim
48 and 57 hours
Same petri dish as earlier, the left image is after the suggested 48-hour incubation, and the two other shots were taken at 57 hours. The earlier shot at 38 hours didn't seem like there was all that much, and even the 48-hour shot seems inconclusive. The others, though, I'm not sure what to make of them.

The physics depicted in this billboard bothers me
Ignoring the other filled glasses, the one being poured into is already partially filled, but the bottle is still completely full. Also, liquid pouring out of a bottle that full would be gushing out with more vigor than the trickle depicted in the photo.

...This is much more accurate, except the bottle is still too full to be starting a third glass.

Big Dan is 2,694 years old
See that giant red splotch? It's directly over Altamonte Mall and I was supposed to be there right now. However, my wife had walked to Ross and ended up with large bags that couldn't easily be carried back to the apartment. So I came with the car to transport them and go to the mall afterward. That means my sweetie kept me out of that huge downpour which is moving south and will be gone by the time I get to the mall!

I CAN HAZ A COOL OFFICE NAO
No more 80-degree workspace! It was crazy that the system in the building couldn't get enough airflow through my office to properly cool it, given that I have several computers/machines pouring extra heat into the room. Feel *really* good now!
Ancient satellite dish
This old 10-foot dish is what we used to use at my office. It was taken down when the affiliate satellite service switched from analog to digital and we put up a minidish. No one is really sure how best to get this thing off the roof. Can't really be used again because the hurricanes of 2004 knocked out several panels. It's been laying here long enough that it can be seen in the Google Maps aerial photos. Any suggestions?
