New strobe kit for work
At long last, I can do decent portraits for publication needs at my office.

What I want to know is, why did this owner feel even remotely obligated to put the model name of the truck on his home-made tailgate?
Photo Op With Grant Hill
I confess, I don't really follow NBA news, but I certainly know who Grant Hill is and recognize his celebrity status enough to enjoy a photo opportunity.
The quad has landed
Zoom zoom!
It's alive!
Getting through the initial set-up. Strong pulse. Congratulations. It's a Mac! Quad G5 processors, 4.5 gigabytes of RAM.
Azalea Geocache
Dug up a geocache today in a beautiful little park by a lake.
The Former Alabama Hotel
After Winter Park's first three large hotels opened facing Lake Osceola, the Alabama was the first on Lake Maitland and opened in 1922. A postcard history booklet being sold on Amazon has three pages of historical photos and additional information about the Alabama. Scroll down on the Amazon page to the "inside this book" section and click "Alabama Hotel" in the CAPs subsection. (Side note, the hotel was converted to a retirement hotel in 1960, closed in 1979, then reopened as Alabama Condominiums in 1981. At this writing, a 2BR 2Bath suite is on the market for $529,000!)

Carrot Top's Home
The walls and landscaping are such that you can't get a really good view of it, but it's clear his moniker inspired the paint color. The house is located in Winter Park and can be seen better with Google Maps.
Evan meets the press
Actually, we just had about nine mics out for the singers at church, and a little fooling around was inevitable.
I'm sick today
I thought I dealt with my winter ill spell a month and a half ago. Grrrr.
60 gigabytes of fun
Okay, admittedly it's technically not mine, but it's kind of like a company car--as long as I'm affiliated with the organization that bought it for me, it's mine to use. And no, I'm not planning on disassociating myself with the organization any time soon.
And yes again, I chose to fool around with the dorky frame effects my cameraphone offers.
Needle removal needed
There's got to be an easier way to get pine needles out of an overhead screen than picking/pushing them out one at a time.
Ready for the kids' arrival
Combo birthday party for my cousin's kids.
Back in black and dressed for success
Shortly after the acquisition of the 60gb fifth-generation iPod, my Marware Sportsuit Basic arrived and (with apologies to Taco Bell™) I'm good to go.
Actually, this is the not the iPod that was inside the box of the earlier photo. After just a weekend, that first iPod would no longer sync or mount to the desktop. I suspected the USB cable but a trip to the Apple Store for tests with both my cable and two others confirmed something with the iPod itself was kaput. An immediate replacement was handed to me. w00t!
So far so good, and tonight, I just noticed the serial number of this one. It ends in FATXL.
Literal LOL moment.
Living in the depths of my wallet
Good gravy train, I can't believe I still have this thing. Found it while cleaning out my wallet. It's more than 10 years old--my license for the slightly higher-performance and cooler-looking Virage cars at Malibu Grand Prix which, unfortunately, does not exist in Orlando or Tampa any more.
I think a forest is growing in my office
While I've certainly looked up specific bits of information in these books over the years, no I have not come anywhere close to reading even a fraction of the pages. You're looking at the complete original (and in very good condition) books and packaging for Final Cut Pro 3; Final Cut Pro 4 with Soundtrack, LiveType, et al; and Final Cut Pro Studio featuring FCP version 5 and adding Motion 2 and DVD Studio Pro 4 into the mix.
The stuff for versions 3 and 4 I'm making available. My friend, Andy, may set up an eBay auction for them if he can gauge whether there's much interest (e.g. other auctions of FCP manuals). If so, I'll update this entry (and blog it) with the auction URL. Otherwise, if you are interested, chime in here.
UPDATE: FCP Studio 1 is now part of the batch I'll be looking to someday unload, now that I have Studio 2 installed.
Confessional time
For the past several weeks, workers have been doing mold removal throughout our building and have placed these wood and plastic partitions up to contain the areas they work in. This one is in a corner of someone's office who had a bit of a sense of humor about it.
Server stuff
A second rack is going into place. More servers. Nifty new tape backup system. Insane battery backup capacity.
They're probably going to need a bigger room soon.
Gifts from wedding couple, part 1
A very close friend was married this past weekend in a ceremony that included components of Native American traditions. It was a fabulous event to witness. Part of the tradition included the couple giving symbolic gifts to the guests. Vergy's gift to the women, as well as to five of us men who are close to her and would 'get' what these items meant, was this vessel of water, a candle/votive, stones, and a chime (seen in the next photo). Her husband's gift was a fishhook and spinner engraved with the wedding date and placed in a bag with a label reading, "Catch Yourself a Keeper." I felt these gifts were extremely well-thought and significant.
Gifts from wedding couple, part 2
This wind chime was also in the box of items seen in the previous photo. Right now, it hangs from the chain of my ceiling fan, but I will soon move it to a better spot when I get a proper hook.
Connect the dots
Someone was having a little fun with the accounting office's "customer" window.

Bucket of coinage
Mostly foreign. Too bad they're all glued together.
The future of television
Well, at some point in time it was the future of television! (Found this in an antique store in Kissimmee, FL.)
It must be Easter time again

How to reduce the cost of billboard advertising...
...simply share your billboard with another company!
A little direction in life
Actually, this was just a photo shoot for a small magazine.
A scene from the next great sci-fi movie
Oh okay, not really. It's just EarthDesk running on my desktop. Looked cool, though.
Tomfoolery
I guess I can't argue that direct marketers know this kind of B.S. will encourage people to open up the crap. Even I did a double take, because I'm actually expecting some material from Countrywide (this was not it). Face it, people--first class is first class. The post office did not "rush" this envelope just because someone wrote some options on the label and checked one of them. See the upper right box? That's the only part the post office cares about--and so should you.
Clean walkway at last!
After seven months, the association finally made good on their letter stating all the walkways on the property would be pressure washed.
Yucky rainy weekend
I have a feeling a lot of BBQ plans are going to be ruined this weekend.
Ice cream! Need I say more?
Ashlyn is so cute!
Decisions, decisions
He'd have some of all if he could.
New Lamborghini
Seen in a Tampa mall parking lot (of all places!). Gorgeous!

Doubtful, but I'll play along
I had lunch today at Kaelin's which claims to be the first eating establishment that offered, on their regular menu, cheese as an addition to a hamburger. Hmm.
Inquire within
This sign was on the opposite side of the door into Kaelin's restaurant. Funny.
Got poop?

Hi Nicki
A friend visited me at the office today. This shot was largely just to show what moblogging from my phone was all about.
That is one big-ass laptop
I don't think I'd even call it a laptop. I wouldn't want this thing sitting on my lap! It probably weighs as much as this girl who was using it!
Bed of Nails?
Seen on a desk within my office building. These metal binder hold-downs are pretty sharp on the ends. Ouch!
Suggested Serving Size
Now just a cotton-pickin' minute here. Suggested serving size, one slice. One slice!? Of BREAD??? Isn't the entire point of sliced bread to take two pieces and use them to enclose some other form of food? Why are these people making everyone multiply every nutrition statistic on this bag by two?
Timpano Chop House
Wonderful lunch today at the Timpano Chop House. My meal was doubly free. For one, a committee for which I assist (but am not an official member) took the members and myself to lunch here as a thank you. Because my entree came considerably later than everyone else's, they didn't charge our party's host for my food—totally on their own doing. I didn't even complain. I was enjoying chatting with everyone! But whatever. Direct quote, "that kind of delay is not representative of our standards."
Dessert Tree
Frozen lollipops and miniature cake-like treats.
Antique Music Box
I took this back on the 4th of July and forgot to upload it. It's been in my aunt and uncle's home for as long as I can remember. It still works. Here's a movie file where you can hear it play.
Antique Clock
This circa-1890 clock belonged to the great grandmother of someone I know. It's made from cast iron and brass—not wood. It's beautiful.
Mood = Unhappy
Thankfully, there's nothing critical on this tape. But, was it a bad tape, or does the deck need repair?
BK Triple Play
Craziness abounds in a Burger King french fry carton. Check the note overlays.
I Don't Get This Sign
This sign says "Handyman Special - $158K" and a phone number. What does that mean? Adding a K to a number means "thousand." Is that $158,000 a day? For life? What are they advertising?
The Department of Redundancy Department
And of course we've all seen bottles of water that reveal the ingredients as—say it with me—water!
Today's Lunch
I kind of liked this restaurant's menu cover.
Sandhill Cranes
These tall birds were hanging around a parking lot, looking for handouts.
Sticker Family
Seen on the back of a minivan.
Entertainment while waiting for a table
We were at Bahama Breeze waiting for our table. Jarin and Ashlyn found some entertainment for the interim.
Preparing bags for neighborhood luminaries
This would be my mom and her twin sister (my aunt).
My entry for the family Christmas cookie decoration contest
Yeah, it was supposed to be an Apple computer logo with OS X on it. Didn't turn out as hot as I'd have liked.
Gingerbread PBJ
My cousin cut the kids' PBJs into the same shape as our gingerbread man Christmas cookies.
Candy Train
Toot Toot
Stacking Napkin Rings
After dinner, my dad was messing around with three of them. I took over and made it to six. The seventh caused it to fall.
