No, this isn't some supernatural apparition showing up in the photo. It's actually not smoke from the blown-out candle, either (you can see the candles aren't fully blown out yet). I had the camera set to both pop the flash and do a non-flash exposure to make the candles more visible. Laurie popped her head down to blow the candles out just as I snapped.
